Featured Artist at RAW:Seattle – April 2nd!

artist_flyer_heather_carr

As a shy artist, I’ve got to be the worst promoter in the world, but I’m going to give it a go now… (deeeep breath…) OK! So…

I’ve been given a great opportunity to be part of an Artists Showcase that is taking place April 2, at the Fremont Foundry. It’s going to be quite a party, with bands, fashion designers and visual artists showing off their creations. RAW Artists was created several years ago to help emerging artists get exposure and I’m really excited that they sought me out to join their showcase.

If you would like to support my art (whether or not you can attend) you can purchase a ticket on my RAW artist page for $15. The only cost to me for the show is the agreement to sell 20 tickets by March 25th. I have to make up the difference for any I do not sell. I will have several paintings on display as well as some prints available for purchase.

I may be live painting that night as well… Still trying to figure out the logistics and how to not make a mess… hahaha

Thank you all for all the support you give me, in the form of likes and comments. The encouragement means so much!!!

Hope to see some of you there! Thank you!!!

The Hours Between

the hours

“The hours between 12am and 6am have a funny habit of making you feel like you’re either on top of the world…or under it.” Quote by Beau Taplin. Sketch from my sketchbook, with digital filters and extra bonus digital pasties…

Pink Haired Girl

Pink Haired GirlSorry that I’ve been MIA… The last few months have brought a lot of changes, so I’ve been extra busy and trying to adjust. I recently got hired to be part of an art team in addition to all the other things going on! I’ll save that story for another post…

For the last three weeks, I’ve been dealing with the flu and pneumonia, so I haven’t been doing any work. Watched plenty of Dr. Who though… 😉 Just picked up my sketchbook again the other day… Here’s one of the sketches I managed. It’s colored pencil, marker, and gel pens. Hope you like it! Looking forward to painting next week!!!

A Fairy Tale – Work in Progress

sleeping beauty fairy tale work in progress wip heather carrHere’s another painting that I have in the works. It’s Death carrying off Sleeping Beauty, or Snow White, or Juliet… insert poisoned/cursed/bewitched princess here. The prince/knight/star-crossed lover has just discovered her…  This one is pretty big. It’s being painted on un-stretched canvas. When it is finished I will mount it on a board.

Pour Life Choices

A friend, who was making a tiny batch of wine, asked if I could create a label for his bottles. As someone who appreciates wine, I couldn’t resist the opportunity! 😉 While discussing design possibilities, I found out that he had a friend (who would be receiving some of the bottles), who is a huge Harry Potter fan… which was perfect, because so am I! He calls his wine Pour Life Choices. Hmmmm… Slytherins are all about poor life choices, so Harry Potter seemed to be the perfect theme.  I only wish I could have worked Severus Snape into the picture… **swoon**  ❤

This was a pencil drawing that I colored and manipulated in Photoshop. I was happy for the opportunity to do more digital work.  I’m enjoying learning how to make Photoshop work for me…

(p.s. Just to be clear, this was not a commercial endeavor… Sadly, these are not for sale. It was just a personal project. 🙂 )

Hand Drawn Animation Practice

There is a song that I have been drawing animations for, in my head, for months!  I want to tackle animating it soon, but I need more practice first. Above is my second attempt at hand drawn animation using a stop motion animation app on my phone. I only had time to complete the first verse of the song so far, but I like how it turned out, considering I’m just learning – and there is a lot to learn! I think I’ll keep working on it.

The song is The Kite Song, by Rosie Thomas. It’s really lovely! I highly recommend purchasing it! 🙂

Oh, tie me to the end of a kite
So I can go on, I can go on with my life
And every marigold I pass below will be my guiding light
I just want to go away from here

Oh, tie me to the end of a kite
So I can go and I can go on with my life
And every time the wind blows stronger I will feel my spirit rise
I just want to go away from here

Oh, tie me ever tightly by your side
So I may go with you wherever you reside
And anytime the road looks dimmer I will be your guiding light
I just want to go away with you

I just want to go away with you
