Pink Haired Girl

Pink Haired GirlSorry that I’ve been MIA… The last few months have brought a lot of changes, so I’ve been extra busy and trying to adjust. I recently got hired to be part of an art team in addition to all the other things going on! I’ll save that story for another post…

For the last three weeks, I’ve been dealing with the flu and pneumonia, so I haven’t been doing any work. Watched plenty of Dr. Who though… 😉 Just picked up my sketchbook again the other day… Here’s one of the sketches I managed. It’s colored pencil, marker, and gel pens. Hope you like it! Looking forward to painting next week!!!

Sketchy Mondays – Just Add Color

Heather Carr sketch illustration doodle pen watercolor happy cat toy girl

The sketch above began mindlessly, and then morphed into a portrait of my son’s beloved, mangy, Happy Cat.  It’s one sad-looking, well-loved toy.

Heather Carr sketch drawing doodle illustration joker jester doll head girl severed pen watercolorI tried out a pack of Bienfang Watercolor Brush Pens that I got for my birthday on some of my doodles.  They are a bit tricky.  Not quite like real watercolors because if you want to create a gradient, you have to start with wet paper.  They dry permanently before they can be blended otherwise.  At least that’s how they behave on flimsy sketchbook paper.

Heather Carr sketch doodle illustration watercolor pen girl looking I’ve not done any real painting this month.  And then, this morning I decided I’d have tea instead of coffee…. And cut back on sugar…  Now I have a HUGE headache.  It’s like I’m trying to torture myself…

I’m so excited that my children go back to school next week, so I can get back to painting – and have something to post besides doodles!!!

Sketchy M…idnight – NYC – Sketches From an Airplane

Heather Carr sketch 2012Well, so much for sketchy Monday… as it’s almost midnight now!  Thought I’d share a few sketches from my recent trip to New York City.  The two at the end of this post were done on a rather turbulent plane, one with pen.  I know… the crazy risks I take with art.  😉

I love all the stuff on top of the buildings in nyc.  BTW, if you haven’t noticed, sometimes I like to add a filter to my sketchbook images….

The Emotional Stages of Accepting an Art Commission

Heather Carr photo comic 2012Woo-hoo! I just finished up 3 commissioned painting last night.  Now I just need to photograph them…  It was really nice to get the job, but I’m also anxious to get back to work on some ideas floating around in my head.

l love playing around with self-portraits and was inspired late last night, after a week of too little sleep, to put this together.  I know I’m not the only one who feels commission work is an emotional roller coaster, but in the end, a fun ride.

See you next week!  xoxo

p.s. – ugh, just caught that my first version had a typo… now corrected!  whew!

Sketchy Mondays – Pencil Sketch – Weekly Herald – Shoreline City Hall Show

Heather Carr pencil sketch 2012

I did this sketch Saturday night while hanging out in bed and watching a show – whew, the wild life I live!  I’m only posting the one sketch, as I’m caring for my daughter today, who has had incredibly high fevers for 5 days.  Heading to the doctor soon…

Thursday, I went to the Open House for my new show at Shoreline City Hall.  I’d like to say we had a huge turn out, but most people I know are still at work at 5pm, and not so close to Shoreline either. 😦  But… I had a good time anyway, and it was great to see my work up on the walls!  Here’s some of the work.  It’s up until the end of July.

There was a small piece in The Weekly Herald (05/25/12) about our show, and they printed one of my paintings for the article.  It was quite a surprise!
